I came across a tutorial explaining how to set up a cluster under Ubuntu 10.04 to break passwords brutforcing with John the Ripper, for academic purposes.
In the original post, the author explains that he succeeded in reducing the time needed to crack passwords at home to approximately 910% using 3 computers. The document, in English, is simple and within reach of the average user. Of course, this clustering can be used for purposes other than hacking.
